Dark Tranquillity @ The Masquerade

Here is my super quick review of the Dark Tranquillity show that was on Saturday night.

Starting off with the opener, Exmortus. Going in I knew absolutely nothing about these guys. Didn't know were they were from or what type of metal they played. It turns out they are from California and play thrash metal and they play it well. Wow did they play it well. Great sound and even better energy on stage. It was exactly what you would want from a thrash band and Exmortus absolutely delivered. They made a fan out of me. Plus they had a cassette tape at their merch table. That is quite awesome.

Next up was my reason for being at the show. Omnium Gatherum and their first ever performance in the United States. I have been a huge fan of this band since I first read a review of their New World Shadows album a few years ago. They did not disappoint. Great music. Great stage presence. Just a great performance of what will hopefully be many I get to see from them in the years to come. I can't recommend this band enough.

Finally Dark Tranquillity hit the stage. I was somewhat familiar with their music before I saw this show's lineup, but I got myself more familiar leading up to the show and wow did they impress. They put on the type of show that you would expect from a band that has been playing together for 20+ years. Plus they have been touring around the world, non-stop, for nearly a year so they have this set mastered. Simply a flawless performance.

What a great show. Sometimes the opening band will play to a dead crowd. Not that night. The crowd came in ready and every single band gave us what we wanted, a great night of amazing music.
